Bangka Belitung Islands Province is a province of Indonesia, which consists of two main islands of Bangka and Belitung islands and small islands such as P. Lepar, P. Pongok, P. Mendanau and P. Nasik Strait, which has named the island the total amounted to 470 pieces and only 50 inhabited islands. Bangka Belitung is situated in the eastern part of Sumatra Island, close to the South Sumatra Province. Bangka Belitung is known as tin-producing areas, has beautiful beaches and inter-ethnic harmony. This provincial capital is Pangkalpinang. The provincial government was approved on February 9, 2001. Once inducted Pj. Governor namely H. Amur Muchasim, SH (former Secretary General of Ministry of Home Affairs), which marks the commencement of the activity wheel provincial government.
Bangka Strait separates Sumatra and Bangka Island, while the Gaspar Strait separates the island of Bangka and Belitung islands. In the northern part of this province are the South China Sea, the southern part of the Java Sea and in the eastern part of Kalimantan Island which is separated from Belitung Island by Karimata Strait.
Bangka Belitung Islands Province formerly part of South Sumatra, but became its own province of Banten and Gorontalo together in 2000. Bangka Belitung Islands Province was established pursuant to Act No. 27 of 2000 on the Establishment of Bangka Belitung Islands Province November 21, 2000, which consists of the District of Bangka, Belitung regency and City Pangkalpinang. In 2003, pursuant to Act No. 5 of 2003 dated January 23, 2003 conducted regional divisions with the addition of 4 districts of the Western Pacific, Central Bangka, Bangka Belitung South and East. Bangka Belitung Islands Province is a division of territory of South Sumatra Province.
