New Zealand's Prime Minister Says 65 People Have Died After a 6.3-Magnitude Earthquake

John Key says the death toll expected to rise further, adding: ". We may see the darkest days of New Zealand" 

Vibrations caused extensive damage because they occurred at a shallow depth of 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) at lunch when Christchurch was in his busiest day. 


Mayor of New Zealand's second largest city, said 120 people had been rescued from the rubble by the quake measuring 6.3-magnitude. 


The most deadly natural disasters in the country in 80 years happened at 1251 (2351 GMT on Monday), 10km (6.2 miles) south-east of the city. 


Damages are said to be far worse than after the quake 1.7 on the Richter scale on September 4, which killed two people seriously injured but no fatalities. 


The quake's epicenter, which occurred at midnight, it's far from the city and deeper underground, but still caused about $ 3 billion (£ 1.9 billion) in damage. 


TV picture after the disaster on Tuesday showed the number of buildings collapsed in the South Island city of nearly 400,000 people. 


Police said the dead included people on two buses that were destroyed by falling buildings.
Helicopters plucked survivors to safety from the roof, and dumped water on the fire. 


Officials said up to 30 people are feared still trapped inside the building were razed Pyne Gould Guinness, which has heard a shout from the ruins
